Introduction
Minjur Thiruvellaivayal Thiruvalleswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Minjur, Thiruvellaivayal, Chennai district, Tamil Nadu. This is very ancient temple built by Chola kings. Currently the temple is in a very dilapidated condition.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. Even though there is no Raja Gopuram at the gate, the entrance gate is beautiful with carvings. There are Vinayagar and Murugan sanctum towards the east side in the temple. There are also Chandikeshwara, Navagrahas and Lord Sun in the temple. The Bhairavar’s vehicle, the dog, adds to the uniqueness of this temple. He is called Rudubhairav.
Here the Presiding deity is called as Thiruvalleswarar and Mother is called as Shantanayaki. Lord Thiruvalleswar appears in the form of a linga in the west-facing sanctum. If he is guided, the effects of debt problems will disappear. On the left side of the sanctum sanctorum is Ambigai, Shantanayaki standing in a Posture. The walls and roof of the sabha mandapa had been lost completely.
