Introduction
Mettumaruthur Aaravamutheswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Mettumarthurvillage, Karur district, Tamil Nadu. Mettumaruthur is a small village; where the temple is located in the north-east corner of the town near the agriculture area. The temple is built of black stones and the plane is made of bricks. Researchers believe that this temple has been worshiped since the Pallava period. The Temple is believed to be more than1000 years old.
The Lord here is called as Aaravamutheswarar. The huge Siva lingam sanctum is eight feet high with a circumference of six and a half feet. This is the largest Shiva lingam in this area. The sculpture of Brahma, the sculptures of Chandikeshwara and the sculpture of Ganesha are seen in this temple. Only three of the four pillars are inside the temple. The temple is unmaintained.
