Introduction
Melaponnabethi Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Melaponnabethi village, Karaikal district, Tamil Nadu. This place is 6 km north of Karaikal / Tirunallar. Melaponnabethi is a small village; here the Primary deity is called as Lord Shiva, in the form of Lingam.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be 800 years old. The Entrance gate with bull chariot display on the eastern facade of this Shiva temple. Nandi Mandapam is located in Long Ottu Kottakai, and before that there is Mahamandapam towards the east. At the Karuvarai gate, there is Vinayagar on one side and Murugan valli on the other side. There are four shrines on the south side of the prakaram. Tenmugan is among the Karurai Gosthas. Under a tree in the south-west, a lingamurthi has been erected. Behind the sanctum sanctorum is the Murugan shrine and to the north-west is the sanctum with Perumal Devi. In the north-east Navagraga mandapam, Bhairav and Surya are on the same floor in the temple.
