Introduction
- Location: Madhya Kailash, also known as Nadukkayilai, is situated at the junction of Sardar Patel Road and Rajiv Gandhi Salai in South Chennai, opposite the Central Leather Research Institute and near the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai.
- Principal Deity: The temple’s main deity is Ananda Vinayakar, whose shrine faces east.
- Sub-Deities: The temple also houses shrines for Adhyantha Prabhu, Anjaneya, Surya, Lord Shiva, Navagrahas, Brahma, Mahavishnu, Durga, Mother Parvathi, Muruga, and Swarna Bhairava.
Puranic Significance
- Moolavar: The main deity, Venkata Ananda Vinayakar, is surrounded by shrines dedicated to various deities, including Lord Siva, Surya, Devi, and Vishnu. There are also shrines for Anjaneya, Swarna Bhairavar, and Onpankol, which are outside traditional Ganapatyam practices.
- Special Features:
- Sage Suka Bramma Maharishi and Sage Markandeyan are depicted on the koshtam of Sri Venugopalaswamy Perumal and Sri Sengamala Thayar.
- On Vinayaka Chaturthi, the sun’s rays directly illuminate the presiding deity, marking an auspicious occasion.
- Eight bells symbolize the seven musical notes (Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, Ni) with the eighth bell representing “Om,” the primordial sound.
- A shrine to Muruga is located in the mandapam before the sanctum sanctorum.
- The unique idol of Adhyantha Prabhu, depicting a fusion of Ganapathy and Anjaneya, is a notable feature. The idol was crafted following a vision experienced by a temple official.
- Rituals: Lord Vinayaka takes on the responsibility of appeasing ancestors. Each afternoon, the priest performs rituals after bathing, using sacred offerings of rice (Pindam) transformed through a specific process involving the deities.

- Wishes and Remedies: Devotees come to the temple to fulfill their wishes, particularly seeking relief from educational challenges and Navagraha Dosham.
- Offerings: Offerings of nine Tulsi leaves and nine Erukkam flowers are made to the joint form of Lord Ganesha and Lord Hanuman, followed by an arathi.
