Introduction
Kurungulam Sundareswarar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, located in the Kurungulam village, Nannilam circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Kurungulam division is five kilometres away on the Peralam-Karaikal road. There is a road on the left and after two kilometres can reach Kurungulam village. To the east is the big temple of Lord Shiva and there is also a big pond nearby the temple. Here the lord is called as Sundareswarar and Mother is called as Meenakshi.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. Here the Lord Sundareswarar resides towards the east and Meenakshi towards the south side. A long hall with eight tall black stone pillars connects the two shrines. In front of the Lord there is an old brick hall with a Nandi altar and Kodimara vinayagar. There are Vinayagar Murugan and Mahalakshmi in Prakaram. There are only Tenmugan and Durgai in Karurai Kottam. In the northeast are Bhairava, Lingam and Sun. It seems that only in the morning there is a one-time puja in the temple.
