Introduction

Kurukkathi Karkadeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Kurukkathi village, Kilvelur circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. Three kilometres away on the Kilvellur – Thiruvarur road and south of the main road is the Shiva temple. Here the Lord is called as Karkadeswarar.

The small east facing temple, and there is a pond to the south of the temple. The Lord has an east-facing hall, with an arthamandapam at the front. The mother is facing south side of the temple. Goddess name is not known. The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old.

 The structures are half-built, and there are planes without proper work. In the sanctum sanctorum, there are idols of Ambikai Ganesha and Muruga. Before the Lord, a copper plate is placed in which Nandi is sitting in front of the Lord in the hall. The sanctum sanctorum is only for Tenmugan, the front hall is also made for him, and there are no other idols. The temples have been built in the north-east and have been left as such.
