Introduction

The ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Mahadeva, also known as Shiva. An interesting historical note about this temple is that it was carefully relocated brick by brick to its present location. This relocation took place during the construction of the Salaulim Dam, which resulted in the submergence of the entire village where the temple originally stood. The temple is now under the jurisdiction of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Upon entering the temple premises, there is an informative board providing details about the temple and its remarkable history. Originally, this temple was situated approximately 17 kilometers from its current location in Kurdi Angod, along the banks of the Salaulem River. The original temple consisted of a square garbhagriha (sanctum) and a porch at the front. The main idol that was once worshiped in this temple is presently enshrined and revered in the Someswara temple at Kurdi Angod.

Historically, this temple is attributed to the Kadamba dynasty, with its construction dating back to the 10th century. Interestingly, during the visit to the temple, there were no individuals present in the vicinity, creating a serene and solitary atmosphere around the ancient site.
