Introduction
- Location: Krosjhuri village, Kashipur block, Purulia District, West Bengal, India.
- Distance: About 10 km from Talajuri on the Kashipur to Bankura route.
- Significance: The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has been classified as a state-protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
- Temple Structure: A new structure was built over the remains of an ancient one.
Puranic Significance
- Temple Layout:
- The temple has two entrances, with lion idols guarding the main entrance.
- The current temple is rectangular in shape with a small shikara (dome) over the sanctum.
- Presiding Deity: The sanctum enshrines Siddheshwar, in the form of Shiva Linga.
- Historical Significance:
- The temple is believed to be 700 years old.
- The Linga might be the original one from the ancient temple.
- The remains of the old structure suggest the temple may have originally been a rekha vimana in the nagara style of architecture.
