The Chola dynasty, known for its contributions to art and architecture, commissioned the construction of the temple. An epigraph from the reign of Rajaraja mentions grants to the temple and records the construction of a mandapa by Rajendra Chola I.

Renovation by Vijayanagara Kings:

In the 15th century, the Kolaramma Temple underwent significant renovation, thanks to the patronage of the Vijayanagara Kings.

The east-facing entrance, known as the Mahadwara, is beautifully decorated and features a Gajalakshmi motif in green stone on the lintel. Inside, the pillars are adorned with sculptured figures on all sides.
