Introduction
Keeralathur Madapuram Vilamanatha Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Keeralathur- Madapuram town, Thiruthurapoondi circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. There are three towns in this municipality are Madapuram, Tirupakikadu and Keeralathur. The small town where this temple is located is called Keeralathur -Madapuram. Here the primary deity is called as Vilamanathar and Mother is called as Periyanayaki.
Puranic Significance
Agnitheertham near to the temple, this temple which had been decaying for ages, was renovated in 2018 by the people and the lovers from outside the village, and it was found to be complete with Vinayagar sanctum murugan sanctum Kala Bhairava sanctum and Maha mandapam. The old Temple is believed to be 800 years old. Here the Lord has an east-facing sanctum and Ambigai has a south-facing sanctum. The special feature is that the canopy for the Lord is made of black stone. In front of the Lord, the highest hall is a six-pillared concrete hall. Outside this mandapam, a Nandi Mandapam is built towards the Lord. On the south side there is a statue of Dakshana Murthy attached to the wall. Prakara are built for Vinayagar, Murugan, and Lakshmi. Sundesar is in good form. In the north, an ancient neem tree can be seen being worshipped. There is a Bhairava temple on the north-east of the temple.
