Introduction
Kariyamangalam Agatheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Kariyamangalam village, Mannargudi circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu.The village name is called as Karimangalam because Rama, an incarnation of Thirumal, worshiped here with Sita.This Shiva temple is situated on the bank of a big pond. Here the Presiding deity is called as Agatheeswarar Shiva and Mother is called as Soundarya Nayaki
Puranic Significance
On his way to the southern part of the Bharatakanda, Agathiyar worshiped Shivalinga at several places, one of which was this kariyamangalam town. At that time, the Kariyasiddhi mantra was blessed and the name of Vinayagar here is Kariyasiddhivinayakar. And the Lord – Agatheeswarar Goddess – Soundaryanayaki. The Temple is believed to be 1300 years old. Ambikai is named Soundaranayake because of her smiley face. Not only Ambigai but also her sons are living here as beautiful ones. Murugan with the peacock. Agathiya also presents with a small circle in his hand. Work has been going on for the past one year.
Belief
It is said that people who want to get a job can get well if they pray to this temple on Tuesdays and those who have health problems on Saturdays. Tirukulam near this temple is said to have been created by Agathiyar. Hence it is also known as Tirthashetram.
