Introduction
Karaikal Somanatha Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Karaikal circle, Kariakal district, Tamil Nadu. This temple is facing towards the east side along with Vinayagar temple at the front, Karaikal Ammaiyar temple at back. Here the Presiding deity is called as Somanathar and Mother is called as Anandavalli.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. Here is an arthamandapam before the Lord. It also has a southward slope. Vinayagar Sanctum in Prakaram is illuminated with Gajaprishta Vimana and Vallitheivanai samedha muruga and Mahalaxmi sanctum are also located nearby. Another Vinayagar is situated in the north-west gate directly behind the sanctum sanctorum, with a large bow tree standing in the north. Karurai include Thenmugan, Lingotpavar, Brahman and Durga. Lord Shiva’s name here is Somanatha. Ambikai Anandhavalli is also famous for the “Mangani Uthathal” festival held in the temple. If married women pray her, it is believed that life will be better.
