KAMALAMUNI SIDDHAR
Kalangi Nathar and Bogar shared a deeply revered master-disciple bond, marked by mutual care and dedication to each other’s spiritual growth. Kalangi Nathar, in particular, invested significant effort in nurturing Bogar’s spiritual journey, guiding him towards enlightenment and supporting his innovative contributions to the world. According to Bogar’s writings, he esteemed Kalangi Nathar highly, even referring to him as his father in poetic verses. The shrine of Kalangi Nathar can be found in a small village near Salem, Tamil Nadu, about 12 kilometres away from Salem city, along the route to Ilampillai.
Siddhar Kamalamuni, as described in the book “Bogar 7000” by Bogar himself, was born in the Tamil month of Vaikasi (May-June) under the Poosam star. Belonging to the Kuravar caste, he reportedly lived for around 4000 years, spending a considerable amount of time in China. While there is some discrepancy regarding his caste, with Siddhar Karuvoorar mentioning the “Kannar” caste in his work “Vadha Kaviyam,” some believe that Kamalamuni and Kalangi Nathar are one and the same. This theory is supported by a line in the 63rd song of “Kamalamuni Suthiram 76,” which equates Kamalamuni with Kalangi Nathar.
