Introduction
Kakkaiyadi Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Kakkaiyadi village, Koothanallur Taluk, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. This east facing temple is a chola style structure made entirely of black stone. There is a beautiful large sanctum sanctorum, the front hall, in which the Lord faces east side and Ambik is facing south side. Outside the main hall is the Nandi altar in the hall. Here the Presiding deity is called as Lord – Kailasanathar and mother is called as Akilandeswari.
Puranic Significance
It is believed that various idols worship the Lord on Karthikai. So those born under Karthika Nakshatra can worship on that day and get all benefits. Among the Karurai Kothams are Vinayagar Tenmugan and Lingothpavar Brahma durgai are seen. Vinayaka’s sanctum is in the south-west and Muruga’s sanctum is a little bigger in the north-west. Aarumukha Subramaniyar is facing east side.
This Murugan is also present in the eight temples of Poravacheri. He is believed to be worshiped daily in the form of Agni. He has a small shrine in the corner. Nearby is a shrine to Bhairava and Navagraha. As it is far away from the big cities and local people do not show much interest, it is once only a temple of worship. It is regrettable that the temple surroundings are not well maintained.
