Introduction

Jaunpur Brahma Baba’s Temple is located in the district of Jaunpur, in Uttarpradesh. Brahma Baba Temple is a small temple which is believed to have been established several decades ago by a local person and is popular for following the tradition of offering clocks to the god.

Puranic Significance

As per local legends, it is believed that when a man, who came to the temple with a desire of becoming a driver, got his wish fulfilled he offered a clock to the temple.

Brahma baba was born into a humble home as Lekhraj Kripalani in the 1880s, was the son of a village schoolmaster. Lekhraj was brought up within the disciplines of the tradition. After different jobs, he entered the jeweler business, later earning a considerable fortune as a diamond trader. He was the father of five children and a leader within his local community, known especially for his philanthropy.

You can find hundreds of clocks hanging on the tree of the temple. Despite the fact that the temple has no priest and is built in an open area, there have been no instances of people stealing clocks or other possessions. The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. Hundreds of devotees come here every month with a wish and once their wishes are fulfilled they offer a clock to the temple.

Belief

Devotees make offerings of clocks to please the deity. Devotees flock to the temple to make wishes and according to them they have never been disappointed. To express their gratitude, they make offering of clocks and watches.
