Introduction
- Located near Sattur in Tamil Nadu, this temple attracts thousands of devotees daily.
- Devotees visit in large numbers during the Aadi month (June–July), especially on Fridays.
- On the last Friday of Aadi, the utsava murti (festival idol) is taken on Vrishaba Vahanam (bull mount) from the village to the main temple, situated between the Arjuna and Vaippar rivers.
Puranic Significance
- The two rivers, Arjuna and Vaippar, are linked to the Pandavas of Mahabharata.
- The temple deity, Mariamman, is believed to be Swayambhu (self-manifested).
- According to legend, Paripooranthammal, a villager, encountered a divine intervention when she was unable to lift her basket from the riverbed, signifying the presence of the Goddess. Villagers built a temple in her honor.
