Introduction
Dholeshwar Mahadev Temple is ancient and historical temple of Lord Shiva. It is believed that this sacred shrine stands from thousands of years may be before the Mahabharat Time. Dholeshwar Mahadev temple located on bank of River Sabarmati, at small village Randesan, near Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Puranic Significance
There are multiple stories attached with this place including Lord Indra to Pandavas. The significance of Dholeshwar Mahadev is mentioned in various Puran written by great saint Maharshi Ved Vyas and believed as Kashi of Gujarat. It is also believed that if any devotee cannot visit Kashi then devotee will get same Punya after visiting this place and bathing in river Sabarmati. Lord Indra was also able to remove sin after the brahma hatya after holy bath here in Sabaramati River and built Dholeshwar temple and placed Shivlinga here, thus also famous as Indreshwar Mahadev.
Another important tale of this sacred shrine is related with Maratha king and saint of Dholeshwar as well. Beautiful and huge Dholeswar Mahadev campus comprise of main shrine with excellent architecture and carving, Yagya Shala for rituals, Gaushala, Saint Nivas, small garden etc in peaceful and natural surroundings of River Sabarmati. Big fair is arranged on Mahashivratri when thousands of devotees of Lord Shiva visit here. Every Monday and Sravan month are very auspicious time to visit here and worship Lord Shiva.
