Introduction
Kattuveera Anjaneya Temple dedicated to Lord Anjaneya, located in the Devasamuthram area of Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu. The temple enshrines a 2,500-year-old idol of Lord Anjaneya in its sanctum sanctorum, making it a site of immense historical and spiritual significance.
Unlike in many other temples where Anjaneya is depicted standing or leaning against a wall, here he is uniquely portrayed in a reclining posture. This distinctive representation adds to the temple’s uniqueness and draws devotees from far and wide.
The temple is situated near the Krishnagiri New Bus Stand, along the Salem Bypass Road. Surrounded by natural beauty, it offers a serene and spiritually uplifting atmosphere for devotees and visitors alike.
Puranic Significance
Sri Kattuveera Anjaneyar Temple is an ancient temple that dates back to the Vijayanagara Empire. Originally, the image of Lord Anjaneya was carved on a rock, and a temple was later constructed at the site to enshrine it. Since the surrounding areas were dense forests at the time, the temple came to be known as Kattuveera Anjaneyar Temple. In addition to the main sanctum dedicated to Lord Anjaneya, the temple also houses shrines for Yoga Narasimha and Goddess Lakshmi Thayar, enhancing its spiritual significance.
Special Features
Many years ago, a Siddha named Srimad Balamuruga Narasimha Swamy from Tiruvannamalai visited the Kattuveera Anjaneya Temple. He declared that this sacred site holds a unique divine energy that demonstrates the oneness of Lord Hari (Vishnu) and Lord Shiva. He also described it as a miraculous place where Lord Hanuman, the beloved devotee of Vishnu, and Nandeeswarar, the sacred bull of Lord Shiva, coexist and bless devotees in the same temple.
One of the temple’s most fascinating wonders is the “growing Nandeeswarar.” This sacred depiction of Nandi is carved on a rock outside the temple, to the left of the main sanctum. Devotees strongly believe that this Nandeeswarar idol is gradually increasing in size over time, adding to the temple’s mystical aura.
Festivals
Special puja is performed to the deity on the new moon and full moon days of every month.
