Introduction
Devankudi Shiva Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Devankudi village, Needamangalam circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Devangudi is 9-km on the Devangudi road to the north of Rajamannargudi. There are two Lord Shiva temples in this town, One in Devankudi and one in Pududevankudi, an adjoining town. A thirteenth century inscription is found in the Pududevankudi temple, dating back to the Cholas period, Rajendracholan. The Devankudi Shiva temple along the main road, the old temple has been dilapidated for many years, in the last few years; the people of the village have completely renovated this temple amid many hardships. The Temple is believed to be 1200 years old. The name of the Lord towards the East is unknown. The Primary Lord is towards the South. His name is not written. Nandi is outside the hall in front of the Lord. There are no Goshta deities, there is a sanctum sanctorum. There is also a well in the north-east, near which are Bhairavar Sun shrines.
