Introduction
Bheemeshwarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Bhimavaram Town, Rajahmundry (way), and Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. It is said that the original name of town called as “Bhimichuram” may have been changed to “Vivichuram”. Today the town is called as “Bhimavaram” and the temple called as “Bhimeswara Temple”. Presiding Deity is called as Bhimeswarar. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Appar. Bhimavaram is one of the five Shiva temples known as Panchaharam (Five). Others are: 1. Amravati, 2. Traksharamam, 3. Chamalkottai, 4. Pithapuram (PITHAPUR). And this Sthalam is called as Dakshinakaya.
