Location:
- Belukurichi village, Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu.
- Approximately 28 kilometers from Karur, 18 kilometers from Namakkal, and 30 kilometers from Thiruchengodu.
Puranic Significance
Main Deity:
- Dedicated to Lord Murugan, also known as Palani Appa.
- The idol represents Lord Murugan in a unique form as a hunter, known as ‘Veduvan Kolam,’ with his hair knotted atop and adorned with a string of Kondrai flowers (Golden shower).
Historical Significance:
- Believed to be around 1000 years old, attracting the attention of several kings due to its uniqueness.
Unique Idol:
- The deity is a swayambu idol, believed to have formed naturally.
- Holds a rooster (Cheval) in his left hand, a feature not found in any other temple worldwide.
- The idol also includes:
- A Vajra vel.
- A Pichuva kathi in its waistband.
- Sandals on its feet.
- Depicted with a three-part spear (Vel), symbolizing the powers of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma bestowed upon Lord Murugan.
- A Shiva lingam is etched above the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum.
