Introduction

This sthalam is situated in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu.Thirukkurugoor is the Avathara Sthalam (birth place) of Nammalwar. This sthalam explains his speciality and his works towards Vaishnavism and because of this, the sthalam is called “Azhwar Tirunagari”. Thoothukudi District Alwar Thirunakari has a 2000 year old Perumal Temple. Here Perumal Thiruvarutpali with his mother Adinathavalli Kukurvalli by the name of Adinathar. Devotees believe that worshiping him will remove the evils of Navagraha. Moolavar Adinatha Perumal blesses the devotees on the east facing kolam. This site serves as an amendment to the Mangalasasana of the Manavala Mamunis and Nammazhvar. The Karuda Mandapam in front of the Moolavar was built by the bridegrooms. The plane of the Nammazhvar clan is larger than the plane of the source’s sanctuary. It is built because Adinath Perumal is bound to the love of the slaves. The idol of Nammazhvar in this temple is said to have been made by distilling water from Tamiraparani, in which his power was exercised by Alvar. Itala ‘Mohana Veena’ or ‘Kal Nathaswaram’ is a wonder of the world. Perumal who has arisen here is the one who appeared spontaneously. The footsteps of his great saint are thought to be within the earth. Itala Adinatha Perumal also has a half-hearted service to the arena at Aurangzeb. Theertham – Brahma Theertham, Tambaraparani River. Sthala Vruksham – Puliyamaram.

Puranic Significance

As Perumal had previously said, “I will appear in the name of Sadagopan to compose the Northern Vedas in Tamil in Kaliyuga,” the carrier came and appeared as a son to the Udayanangai couple, at their request, in the beautiful town of Alvarthirunagari on the banks of the Tamiraparani River in Pandyanad. The baby born in this way did not do any natural activities such as breastfeeding and crying. The child, who grew up unusually, was named Maran and Parangusan. Concerned parents saw the condition of their child and brought the child to the Thirukurugur temple and tied him to a cradle in a tree in the Adityashan fermented tree. In this situation, before Sadagopan was born, Madurakavi, who was born in Tirukoilur, lived by worshiping Tirumala. One day Madurakavi chased away a cow grazing in his field, and the cow tripped and fell down and died. Madurakavi repented of his sin and started going to the North in order to take a holy bath to get rid of his sin. Thus one night during penance in North Kashi, he saw a light in the sky. He had been walking on that light path for many days. That light disappeared when it came to Thirukurugur. Madurakavi found out that it was the fermented wood of Thirukurugur that fascinated him. Accordingly he reached Sadagopara and asked him to accept himself as a disciple. He thus accepted him as a disciple and preached the Divine Sermon. Also Rick, Yajur, He also preached the essence of the Atharvana Vedas such as Thiruvirutham, Thiruvasiriyam and Periyathiruvandati respectively. Therefore, Sadakoparakiya Nammazhvar became famous as Maran who made the Vedas Tamil. The name Nammazhvar was coined to refer to Sadagopara, who excelled in knowledge, wisdom and devotion. Thirumal also got the name Vakulaparanar because he wore the Tantaruliya Mahilamala.

Beliefs

It is said that under this fig tree, 36 great people of the Divine Land came to Nammazhvar and sang to them from here. There are sculptures of 36 Divya Desa Perumals on all four sides of the wall built under the fermented tree. The date palm here is Adiseshane. Hence the name ‘Sesha Kshetram’. Those who have nagatoshas can get rid of nagatoshas if they light 9 ghee lamps each for Perumal, Nachiyar, Garuda, Nammazhvar and Itala fig trees
