Introduction

 Avanam Pasupatheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Avanam village, Kudavasal circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. On the way to Kumbakonam Thiruvarur, from Mathur, 8 kilometres on Nannilam road and after 1 ½ km, a small road turns to the right and after one km there is Aavanam village. Here the Primary deity is called as Pasupatheeswarar in the form of lingam.

This Shiva temple is located on the banks of a large pond here has fallen into disrepair and only the Shivalingam and the great Nandi remains here. The huge linga murti named Pashupatheeswarar, for whom a sanctum sanctorum has been built and the work is half way done. The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old
