Introduction
Shamlaji, also spelled Shamalaji, is a major pilgrimage centre in Aravalli district of Gujarat state of India. The Shamlaji Hareshwar Mahadev is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Temple is located on the banks of the Meshvo River in the valley surrounded by well wooded hills. It is believed that this temple was built in 6th Century CE. The temple structure is in a dilapidated state. The ancient monument is in a very precarious state and is on the verge of collapse. Growth of thick vegetation on the top and the sides has enfeebled the structure badly. The thick roots have split the stone blocks and wide cracks have developed. The ancient temple may crumble down anytime if proper measures are not taken immediately.
