Introduction
Andiyur Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Andiyur village, Thiruvarur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Andiyur is a small town; the East facing Shiva temple is walled on all four sides with a small gateway. It is a completely brick temple. Here the Primary deity is called as Lord Vishwanath in the form of Lingam and Mother is called as Vishalaksi.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. The Lord has an east-facing sanctum and mother has a south-facing sanctum. There is a long small hall in front of the Lord. There is Nandi in it. They have Tenmuka durga as Karurai Kotam. The temples are Vinayagar, Murugan Makalakshmi and Vayulingam. Vayu Bhagavan is said to be the person who worshiped the linga in this temple. In the north-east are the Navagrahas, the Sun and the shrine of Bhairava. In the south-east corner of the ancient temple, there is a broken Gajalakshmi nearby.
