Introduction
Andankarai Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, located in the Andankarai village, Thiruthurapoondi circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu.This Kailasanathar temple is situated in the north-east of the Andankarai town. Here the Presiding deity is called asKailasanathar and Mother is called as Umaiyambhikai
Puranic Significance
This temple, which was built on a large scale during the time of the Chola kings, was completely destroyed, but after trying for many years, this temple was completely rebuilt three years ago. The old Temple is believed to be 1300 years old. The temple is completely built of bricks. Here the East facing Lord Kailasanathar is a medium size lingamurthy. Ambigai is in the south facing temple. A long tin shed has been built in front of the Lord. Outside it there is Nandi and an altar facing the Lord. In Karurai, there are Tenmugan, Chakram, and Vishnu carrying the katha weapon, and Durga in the north. Among the Prakara temples are Vinayagar Valli Deivanaisametha Murugan, Sandesar and towards the west the Bhairavardani shrine.
