Introduction
Andanapettai Annamalaiyar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Andanapettai village, Nagai circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. This Shiva temple in the center of the town is situated towards the east of the three-storied Rajagopuram. Here the Presiding deity is called as Annamalaiyar and Mother is called as Unnaamulai Amman.
Puranic Significance
There is no information about when the temple was built, however, there are some statues carved in relief on the pillars, Similar to Thiruvannamalai temple. People who cannot go to Thiruvannamalai can worship this temple. The old temple of this temple was completely damaged. The Temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old.
On the right side of the gopuram towards the south is a large Natarajar darshan Mandapam. The temple is composed of magnificent multi-plane structures with a high wall. The Lord has a sanctum towards the east; in front of him there is a Maha Mandapam, outside of which there is Nandi, then a tall copper flagpole, and then an altar. Vinayaka and thandayuthapani are in the upper floors of the Mahamandapam gate. Navagrahas are arranged on a wide platform attached to the flagpole. The structures of the temple are made of stone up to the Prastram and brick in the vimana.
To the left of the Swami is the shrine of Thiagaraja, which has its own shrine. From left to right, the shrine of Thiagaraja has a large number of relics. It is a privilege to have a private shrine with a private plane. In the West there are Lingotbhava and in the North Brahman and Durga.
To the west of the prakaram there is a long Thirumalapatti in which Kannimoola Ganapati is worshiped in the separate sanctum. The shrines to the east of the circuit have Shetravanayaka, Kashiviswanathar, Arunachaleswarar, Vallitheivanai and Subramaniya, Gajalakshmi, and the shrine to the north is Shani Bhagavan. Sandesar is nearby. Salai Mandapam in the North-East and Bhairava in the West are offering blessings in the separate sanctum.
