Puranic Significance

Nallathevan was the protector of Kandamanur Zamindar. The tax money from Nalladevan went to Madurai king Thirumalai Nayak on a monthly basis and tied up. Kandamanooru Zameen handed over the responsibility. When he went to Madurai month after month and paid taxes to the king, he saw a beautiful young Sivanammal who was herding cattle in Urappanur. In order to marry her, Nalladevan asked the girl to Sivanammal’s parents. They refused to give the girl to Nalladevan. One day when he was paying taxes to the king, he took Sivanammala, who was in a field in Urappanur, on horseback and went to Kandamanur to get married.

The biggest festival in Kandamanur was the Zameen-led slide climbing competition. Many of them participated in the competition and failed to climb the tree. Nallathevan climbed on the oiled slippery tree. He continued to slip several times and picked up the cloth that had been finished with gold coins on its top. Someone who was behind the crowd at the time sprayed poison on the spear and threw it at Nalladevan’s back. He died shortly afterwards due to a poisoned spear.

Arrangements were made under the leadership of Zameen to cremate the body of the deceased Nalladevan. After the death of Nalladevan, he said, “I cannot live without him. Let him burn me in the body. ” You have to go to the king of Madurai and get permission to climb “Udankattai” Sivanammal said “OK” and went to see the king of Madurai. She got permission from the king of Madurai. Both bodies were burnt to ashes. Sivanammal was the only body that did not burn in the fire. They were amazed to see it. The people of the village worshiped Sivanammal as a deity with their unburned foreheads and their bones. The villagers built a temple for Sivanammal and worship her.
