Puranic Significance

This temple, which was not famous because of Murthyal Thirtha, has become famous because of a robbery. 3 ancient metal idols that were stolen from Alathur Viswanath Swamy temple 50 years ago were placed in the Los Angeles – Lasma museum and the robbery incident came to light during the investigation conducted by the officers of the Idol Smuggling Unit. A Temple idol was discovered last year.

The Temple is believed to be 1500 years old. The east facing Shiva temple is built of brick and only the front mandapam of the temple is built with black stone pillars. The Shiva temple, which has been dilapidated for many years, is currently being repaired. The Lord has an east-facing sanctum and the Ambigai has a south-facing sanctum. Outside there is a Nandi facing the Lord in a black stone pillared hall. Idols are not yet installed in Goshtas. A separate shrine has been established for Sandesar. No official temples have been set up yet. There are three gates in the surrounding wall, east, south and north side.
