Introduction
Akkaraikulam Chokkanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Akkaraikulam town, Nagapattinam circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. However, after the period of this temple, one of the twelve temples of Nagai, Karmukesham Temple, was destroyed and this Akkarai Kulam Chokanathar Temple has come up in that place. The Portuguese took the temple for their convenience and used the temple as a bazaar. This temple is on the banks of a large pond on the banks of the river. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. Here the Lord Chokkanatha is a small Lingamurti facing east. In front of him is the beautiful little Nandi, Lord Menakshi has a shrine towards the south. The Lord’s Sanctuary is made of stone. Tenmugan is in Karurai Kottam. Vinayagar Muruga has its own Prakaram. Pujas are held twice in the morning and in the evening. It was seen that the priest was doing the pujas even at peak hours when no one was around.
