Introduction
Tarabasappa Temple is located in the Aihole, Bagalkot, Karnataka, India. This temple is in north side from Durga Gudi Temple.
Special Features
This is a small temple constructed on an elevated platform, featuring the characteristic architectural style of the Badami Chalukyas. Known as Tarabasappa Gudi, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple consists of a Garbhagudi (sanctum) crowned by a Rekha-Nagari Shikhara, which is a typical feature of the Badami Chalukyan architecture. Inside the main mandapa of the temple, a Shiva Lingam is enshrined, while a Nandi (bull) statue stands in front of the Shiva Lingam, just outside the temple.
Recently, some partial restoration work has been carried out on the temple, but it remains in a somewhat deteriorated condition. The temple is a simple sandstone structure with only three openings: one entrance door and two ventilators. Opposite the temple, there is a large tree, and beneath it, a small collection of ancient sculptures is displayed. Unfortunately, there is no signage or board indicating the name of the temple. It is worth noting that this temple is a protected monument under the laws of the Indian government and is managed by the Archaeological Survey of India.
