Introduction

Addipuducherry Madhangeeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Addipuducherry village, Thiruvarur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. The temple area has become like a forest without worshipers for many years. The surrounding walls are crumbling. All that remains is the entrance. There are no idols in it the temple. The sanctum sanctorum is standing on ruins and there is a mandapam in front of it outside which is a nandi mandapam where a sheep rests. Vinayagar Murugan Sandesar Temples in Prakaram are now in a state of irreparable damage. Ambigai’s Sannadita is towards the south. The idols in the temple are kept in a separate room. Opposite the temple is a large pond which is not maintained.

Puranic Significance

The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old. The lingam worshiped by the famous devotee was named after the god Madhangeeswarar on the banks of the Odampokki River in this town which later became Addipuducherry. The name of the Lord here is Matangeswarar- Goddess of Lokanayaki.
