Aadi Perukku Festival 2024: Did you know How to Celebrate… the Special Shine of Aadi Perukku

1; The Tamil month of Aadi is considered to be a month filled with various special significance. It is often said that no auspicious events should be conducted during the month of Aadi. However, on Aadi Perukku day, it is customary for people to start new businesses, make investments for business growth, initiate wedding discussions, and purchase items like sarees and jewelry for auspicious events. The belief is that anything started on this day will continue to grow and prosper.

2; There is a saying, “Aadipattam thedi vidhai,” which means “sow seeds in the Aadi season.” Since the month of Aadi marks the beginning of the rainy season, the rainwater collected in reservoirs causes rivers to swell. Farmers, with the belief that this water can be used for agriculture to yield a good harvest, sow their seeds during this time. If paddy is sown in Aadi, it can be harvested in the month of Thai.

3; Therefore, to ensure an abundant water supply for agriculture and to promote agricultural prosperity, the tradition of celebrating Aadi Perukku arose. In some regions, people consider the Kaveri River as their household goddess and perform rituals by offering special items on the day of Aadi Perukku.

4; This year, the Aadi Perukku festival falls on Saturday, August 3rd. On this day, the Chaturdashi tithi lasts until 4:55 PM, after which the Amavasya tithi begins.

5; This is the Aadi Amavasya day, which is significant for ancestor worship. Since it falls on a Saturday, the Rahu Kalam is from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, and the Yamaganda Kalam is from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid these times and perform the Aadi Perukku rituals during other hours.

6; It is often said that no auspicious events should be conducted during the month of Aadi. However, on Aadi Perukku day, it is customary for people to start new businesses, make investments for business growth, initiate wedding discussions, and purchase items like sarees and jewelry for auspicious events.

The reason for this is the belief that anything initiated on this day will flourish, and any gold or valuable items purchased will increase in abundance. This unshakable belief is deeply ingrained in Hindu tradition.
