Introduction
Karuvappilankurichi – Ganapathikurichi, if you cross the flood bridge on the south side of Murugankudi on Pennadam Road, is 1km away from the Belandurai Dam on the south bank of the Pelandurai. AD 959 l (Kaliyandu 4060) Irungolan Narayanan Pugaippavar Kandan dug a large lake called Vinda Mahadevi Pereri and its religion is enshrined in the pillar inscriptions of Thirumuttam Shiva temple as it is named after Vijayalayan. The dam was built by Paranthakan and was called Paranthakanthurai. The dam, now known as Pelandurai, was built in 1876. A Ganesha temple is located in a small residential area on the way from Ganapathikurichi to Paranthakandurai Dam. There is a lingam in the front hall of this Ganesha temple with a beautiful front hall. One can guess that this is the Ganesha temple in the southwest corner of the big Shiva temple complex. The temples of Lord Shiva must have been destroyed. A stone flagpole or pillar inscription has been found in Pelandurai. Until the rest of the saints are available, it should be accepted that this Shivalingam is the only one left after the period. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
