Introduction
It is 18 km from Sirkazhi on the way to Poompuhar and 20 km from Mayiladuthurai. There are two Shiva temples in this town. The one is in the south side of the main road and other one on the north bank of the Cauvery. We will see the Shiva temple located on the north bank of the Kavirikarai, From the bus stop, a small street runs along the banks of the Cauvery. Last stands near a detached house with trees. Near Cauvery is a small shrubbery. The temple is located on the banks of this canal.
Puranic Significance
The temple has Lord Sundareswarar facing east and Meenakshi facing east on his left side. This is a wedding vision; it is good to worship him as a couple. The long faade connects the two shrines. At the top of the hall are Panchamoorthy statues. The temple is famous for its small size. In front of the temple there is a large royal tree and under it there is a Ganesha and Nagas. The Lord is the middle gender, and so is Ambika. There is a Ganesha at the gate of the sanctum sanctorum. Sanders is near the Lord’s Gomugam. To the northeast are the Bairavar, Saturn, Sun. People come and go on special days. They will come and open the separate house in front of the temple. The last time the canopy was seen was in 2009.
