Introduction
The town is also known as Komal as the Lord appeared as a clown torch called Hastavarna Jyoti. There are three Shiva temples in the town. Kirubakoobeswarar, Amirtheswarar Third is this Alagiyanathar temple. This Nathar Temple is located on the west bank of a large pond on the road to Chidambaram in the south east of Komalur. The temple is said to have been built during the reign of the Chola kings. However, there is no exact information. To the east are the large temple sanctum sanctorum, the front hall and all the masonry. The sanctuary plane is the only brick work. Over time, the temple crumbles and the walls crumble without care.
Puranic Significance
One of the largest lingams in the front hall stands on one leg. The Brahma part is visible on the outside and the Audaiyar part in the middle is broken. It looks like a sack that encloses with a drawstring. A statue of Sanders is placed nearby. Inside the sanctum there is a medium sized lingam. He himself is known as the beautiful Nathar of Emperuman. -There is a Nandi in front of him. No shrine or sanctuary of the goddess was found. The temple, which stood majestically for hundreds of years, is crumbling in time. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
