Introduction
After crossing the railway overpass on the Kolanchiappar Temple Road to the west of the Virudhachalam Periyakoil, take the bridge over the Manimuttar to the right for 2 km to reach the village of Erumanur. Just before that there is CSM College on the left side of the road. If you go exactly 200 meters from the gate of the college to Erumanur road there is a big banana orchard with a small house on the right side in which we can see Lord Vayulingam. Erumanur is famous for being the site of a 2000year old ancient shrine. Erumanur was one of the subdivisions of the Eruman Enbor Yadava clan and may have been part of the Erumanur where they lived. In one of the long tin sheds under a Vanni tree, Emperuman is seen as a vayulingam idol facing east. It is called Vayulingeswarar because it is worshiped by “Vayul”. On the left side of the Lord there is a little Ambika, on both sides opposite the Lord are Ganesha and Subramanya. Worshiping Him can bring longevity and strength. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
