Puranic Significance
The Muniyappar Temple is located on Gandhi Street, which runs south from the Boodhamur bus stand towards the river. People call it Alamarattu Muni. Adjacent to this temple is the Shiva Temple called Indralingam. There are two Ashta Lingams around the Vriddhachalam Palamalainathar Temple. The one is located in the Boodamur, The name of the temple is Indra Lingam as the Lord is in Indrati. Another temple on the south side of the town is called Agni Dikku Lingam. In order to build a temple for this lingam which was without a temple, a sanctum sanctorum was built like a large hall around the facade. The works have been lying dormant for several months due to the widening. There is only lingam in the sanctum sanctorum. There are no other deities or shrines. “With the kind permission of Sri Kadambur K. Vijayan, these are extracted from his posts”.
