Introduction
Varamuktheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Erumai Vetti Palayam Village in Thiruvallur District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Varamuktheeswarar and Mother is called as Kamakshi Amman. There is also a Bhadrachala Ramar Temple on a Hillock in this Village. This temple in nearly 1,000 years old. This Village is called as Mahishasuramardhanam in olden days.
Puranic Significance
Varamuktheeswarar athur is an ancient temple in a very dilapidated condition. The temple is east facing with entrances in the south through a large 4tiered RajaGo puram. All the structures are of bricks. The goddess shrine is in very bad condition. The spacious prakaram is covered with wild growth through walkable. Some of the niches of the main sanctum sanctorum has deities which probably do not belong there. Varamoortheeswarrar/ Varamuktheeswarar athur is in need attention to preserve it for the future. The temple is under renovation half of the work be done and the other part in dilapidated condition. There are some nice pillar in the mahamantapa with beautiful carvings. Though the surroundings walls are good the security of the temple is weak it is in a remote spot and the temple can be entered through a small door in the main rajagopuram, The other deities Vinayaka, Murugan, Bhairava.
Beliefs
For getting married, devotees visit this temple for 12 Fridays and light ghee lamp.
Special Features
The Temple is east facing with four tiered Rajagopuram. Presiding Deity is called as Varamuktheeswarar. On every Tamil new year, the rays of the sun fall on the Shiva Linga. Vinayagar, Murugan, Dhakshina Moorthy, Durga and Brahma are the niche idols found in the outer wall of the sanctum. Mother is called as Kamakshi Amman. Since both Lord and Mother are facing the East direction, it is known to offer solutions for the obstacles in getting married. There are separate shrines for Bhairavar and Chandikeswarar can be found in this Temple.
Festivals
At present, one-time pooja is being performed in this temple. Previously Pradhosha Pooja was celebrated but due to reasons unknown, it has been discontinued.
