Introduction
Location:
- Situated in Varapuzha Town, 15 km from Ernakulam, Kerala, on NH-17 highway.
Historical Background:
- Original deity was Narasimha Moorthy, later shifted to Mulki.
- Re-consecrated with a seven-hooded Varaha Swamy idol brought from Goa.
- Temple handed over to Alappuzha Anantha Narayanapuram Thuravoor Tirumala Devaswom (AATTD) for reconstruction.
- Punaprathista (re-consecration) performed in 1952 (Edavam month, Makayiram day, 1127 M.E.).
Temple Features:
- Main Sanctum: Houses the idol of Venkatachalapathy with Mahalakshmi and Bhoomi Devi on either side.
- Utsava Vigraha: The processional idol is Varaha Moorthy.
- Upa-devatas: Hanuman and Mahaganapathy (Ganapathy idol has a right-twisted trunk, Valampiri).
- Anapandal: Constructed on eight pillars with Dashavatar carvings, including Varaha and Narasimha.
Special Features:
- Age: Believed to be over 1,000 years old.
- Significance: Dedicated to Varaha Swamy, believed to fulfill desires like salvation, wealth, relief from diseases, and acquisition of knowledge.
- Temple Structure: Recently constructed entrance Gopuram, nalambalam, and a sacred area with the Ganapathy and Hanuman temples.
Festivals:
- Annual Festival: 8-day celebration during Punartham Nakshatra in Phalguna month (February-March).
