- Origin of Idol: The idol was originally worshipped by Lord Krishna and was later discovered by fishermen after being immersed in the sea. The local ruler Vakkayil Kaimal built the temple to enshrine the idol.
- Unique Aspects: The idol embodies a Chaturbhuja (four-armed) form with Vaishnava and Shaiva elements due to Lord Rama’s battle with Khara, earning him the name Khara Samhara Moorthy.
- Trimoorthi Manifestation: The garland in Rama’s hand suggests aspects of Brahma, making the deity a manifestation of the Trimoorthis (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva).
- Shiva Aspect: The deity also has aspects of Lord Shiva, believed to provide relief from evil spirits like Chathan.
- Panchaloha Covering: The original stone idol is now covered with a Panchaloha (five-metal) raiment due to wear.
