Introduction

The Sri Srinivasa Temple is located at Tiruchanur, near Tirupati in the Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh. The temple is situated on the banks of the Swarnamukhi River, approximately 1.1 km from Yogimallavaram Bus Stand, 4.9 km from Tirupati Railway Station, and 4.2 km from Tirupati Central Bus Station. The temple, around 250 years old, was once considered the Gateway to Tirupati for devotees from the southern regions. In 2008, the temple was acquired and renovated by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).

Puranic Significance

• The temple holds significant spiritual and historical importance. Over two centuries ago, a Sri Vaishnavite seer named Kethandipatti Swamy, originally from Lakshmipuram, near Kuppam, lived in the vicinity of this temple. Kethandipatti Swamy was a philanthropist, having donated his properties worth Rs. 4 lakhs to the poor before leading a monastic life here.
• His disciple, Sri Vedanta Ramanuja Maha Desikan, also known as Tirupati Swamy, furthered his teachings. Tirupati Swamy later initiated his disciple, Sri Ranga Ramanuja Maha Desikan, who came to be known as Kozhiyalam Swamy.
• Kozhiyalam Swamy was born in 1882 and assumed sainthood in 1920. He served the temple until his passing in 1944.
• The temple, initially managed by the family trust of Madabhushi Anantasayanam Ayyangar (former Lok Sabha Speaker and native of Tiruchanur), gradually lost its prominence. In 2008, the temple was taken over by TTD, which renovated and restored its sanctity.
