Introduction
The Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is located in Thondamanadu village, near Sri Kalahasti and Tirupati, in Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh, India. The temple was taken over by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) in 2008, and all religious activities (Kainkaryams) are performed according to the tenets of the Pancharathra Agama.
Puranic Significance
- The temple is of great mythological importance as it marks the sacred place where Lord Venkateswara, the supreme deity of the Kaliyuga, appeared to King Thondaman Chakravarthi along with his wives Sridevi and Bhudevi.
- King Thondaman was an ardent devotee of Lord Venkateswara. After building a temple dedicated to the Lord, Thondaman received divine blessings. In his later years, when he could no longer travel to Tirumala, Lord Venkateswara graciously appeared to him in Thondamanadu itself, blessing him with His perpetual presence at the temple.
- This event has imbued the temple with deep spiritual significance, as it is believed to be the place where Lord Venkateswara’s divine presence remains, alongside Sridevi and Bhudevi, blessing devotees with His grace.
Special Features
- The deity of the temple, Thondamanadu Sri Venkateswara Swamy, is known for His compassion and generosity, especially towards devotees in urgent need of divine blessings.
- Lord Venkateswara at this temple is considered particularly benevolent, offering His blessings to all devotees who seek His grace, especially in times of need.
