Introduction

Kshanambika Devi Sri Chakra Temple is located in Srirangapattana town in Mandya district of Karnataka. Srirangapattana one of the oldest and the previous capital of Wodeyar rulers is situated about 125kms from Bangalore and 20 kms from Mysore. The temple is oldest one in the Srirangapattana. This temple is also called as Jyothirmaheshwara (Shiva) and vedhanayaki (Kshanambika) temple. This temple was neglected for many years, the temple as renovated by devotees. But now the temple is partially ruins.

Puranic Significance

The temple was constructed around 1200 years ago. Kshanambika Devi temple is quite ancient and Acharya Adi Shankara is said to have consecrated Sri Chakra in this temple (6th century AD). Later Dalawayi (Commander in chief) of Wodeyar dynasty named Kalale Nanjaraja of early 18th century had built the super structure. Hence Kalale Nanjaraja and his wife’s images are etched on one of the pillar of the temple. This temple is less popular compared to the Nimishambha temple. Kshnambhika is Nothing but goddess Lalitha maha tripurasundari/ Parvathi. Kashnambhika means a goddess who fulfils the desires in seconds (Kshana means second). The statue was believed to be installed by sri adi shankarcharya. The temple has the statue of kshanambhika along with the sri yantra (srichakra). The yantra has beejaksharimoolamantra carved around the stone in complete manner. The temple also encloses lord jyothirmaheshwara. Sri yantra is believed to be very powerful, which represents the universe in geometrical form. The sri yantra has 9triangles. Among them 4 are facing upright represent shiva remaning 5trirangles represent shakthi(paravti).
