Puranic Significance
- Birth of Nathamunigal:
- Sri Nathamunigal, a prominent Vaishnava Acharya, was born in Anusha Nakshatra of Ani month at Sri Veeranarayanapuram, near Kattumannar Kovil.
- Rediscovery of Thiruvarasu:
- The exact location of Sri Nathamunigal’s Thiruvarasu (holy burial site) was initially neglected and unidentified.
- In 1993, Sri Thirukkovilur Jeeyar Sri Thiruvenkada Ramanujacharya Swamy identified and popularized the site based on Guru Parampara and ancient references.
- Contributions for Revival:
- In 2001, Sri Pulavar R. Haridas, a Tamil scholar from Jayamkondam, purchased the land surrounding the site and established the Sri Nathamunigal Trust to facilitate the reconstruction.
- Historical evidence suggests that the site was part of an ancient temple complex from the era of Rajaraja Chola.
- According to tradition, Sri Easwara Bhattar (Nathamunigal’s son and Sri Alavandar’s father) installed the deities and conducted the final rites for Sri Nathamunigal.
- Reconstruction Efforts:
- In 2009, the Sri Bhashyakara Charitable Trust took over the restoration work.
- The Samprokshanam (consecration ceremony) was held from July 6th to 8th, 2012, with special Vedic and Prabandham recitations.
Special Features

- The main deity, Srinivasa Perumal, is enshrined in the sanctum, gracing devotees with his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi.
