Introduction
- Dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Varaha incarnation (third avatar of Dashavatara).
- Presiding deity: Lord Varaha (body of a man, head of a boar) and Goddess Pundareegavalli.
Puranic Significance
- Built during the reign of King Anaji Chauhan (1130–1150 A.D.).
- Faced destruction multiple times:
- By the Ghaznavid army under Arnoraja.
- By Aurangzeb during Mughal rule.
- Reconstructed in 1727 by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur.
- Associated with the legend of Lord Vishnu rescuing Bhudevi (Mother Earth) from the demon Hiranyaksha in his Varaha form.
Architectural Features
- Built in Rajasthani Haveli style, featuring:
- Heavy stone and plaster design.
- Large pilasters, gateways, hanging eaves.
- Long staircase leading to the entrance.
- Sculptures and gold-styled pillars depicting Garuda.
- Houses life-size statues of Dwarapalakas (temple guardians).
Special Significance
- One of the eight Swayambhu Kshetras (self-manifested holy sites) of Lord Vishnu.
