Introduction
Kothangudi Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Kothangudi village, Kilvelur circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. Kothangudi village is 2 kms on the road going west of Ullabangal town. Kotavangudi has become Kothangudi; In the middle of the town there is a magnificent Shiva temple facing east on a large flat surface, Here the Presiding deity is called as Lord – Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Parvati, the temple is more than a thousand years old Shiva temple in this village.
Puranic Significance
Here the lord is facing eastward and Mother is facing southward. The beauty of the plane is spectacular. Before the Lord there is an elevated front hall. Outside this hall there is a Nandi on a raised platform facing the Lord Shiva. There is also an altar. In the south of Karurai Kotham, the Dakshinamurti, the image of the Dakshina idol with the Makishan head is broken and is being kept. A separate large sanctum has been set up for Sandesar. Only one time pooja is going on the temple.
