Introduction

Korathankudi Kalasamhareswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Korathankudi village, Kilvelur circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. In the middle of this village, there is a temple on the bank of a big lake. Here the Presiding deity is called as Kalasamhareswarar and Mother is called as Kungumavalli.

Puranic Significance

When Yama threw a rope to take Markandeyan’s life, he also dragged the lingam, so Lord kicked him with his foot. A world without Yama would be lifeless. Bhumadevi asks the Lord to forgive him. Yama worships linga in many places and receives forgiveness. The Lord in it is called Kalasamharaswarar.

The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. This idol was created and worshipped. So here the Lord – Kalasamhareswarar have a beautiful medium size lingamurthi. Those who worship here will have a long life, will not suffer bad death, if they pray to Kungumavalli and chant Sakasranama, she will give them the necessary blessings, give birth to children and get married with good fortune.

This temple, which has been dilapidated for a long time, has been repaired by Mahakalakshmi Ammaiyar of Chennai and looks brand new. Nandi Bhagavan is in front of the East facing Lord. In the sanctum sanctorum there is Tenmukan Lingoth, Brahman and a large and beautiful ancient Durgai. The Prakarasitalayams are for Vinayaka, Aduthusinivasa Perumal and Aduthuvalli Deivanaisama for Murugan. In the north-east towards the west are the Bhairavas and two small Nagas nearby.

The temple is surrounded by a wall and to the south of this temple gate is the Hanuman temple facing north. Inside, Hanuman is standing on a four-foot-tall Posture. Lakshminarayana peruma temple is located on the south-east side of the temple. There is also a big pond next to this temple. Though the temple is controlled by the government, the temple is beautifully maintained and the idols are perfect for eternal worship.
