Introduction
Location:
- Situated in Chandavasal Village, Thiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu.
- The presiding deity is Gangai Amman.
Theertham & Sthala Vriksham:
- Theertham (holy water): Perumal Theertham.
- Sthala Vriksham (sacred tree): Vilwa tree.
Puranic Significance:
- Lord Vishnu’s intervention: To save the earth from Shiva’s anger, Vishnu doused the flames on Rajakambira Mountain using seven tanks.
- Lord Shiva’s footmarks: Shiva’s footprints are said to be imprinted on Rajakambira and Adiannamalai mountains.
- Ganga Devi’s gratitude: After Vishnu saved the world, Ganga Devi built temples for Vishnu and herself in the area.
Senaikku Meendan Vasal:
- Historical reference to Kumarakambanan (Vijayanagara King) and Rajanarayan Samburvarayar.
- The name “Senaikku Meendan Vasal” refers to the gate where the king returned from war.
