The Khetapai Narayana Temple is a lesser-known but historically and artistically significant temple located in Bhatkal, Karnataka, India. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

Dedication: The temple is dedicated to Bhagvan Vishnu, one of the principal deities in Hinduism.
Builder: The Khetapai Narayana Temple was constructed in 1546 AD by Khetapai Narayana, a jeweler who came to the region from Goa. This individual’s contribution to the temple’s construction is of historical importance.
Location: The temple is situated in Bhatkal, Karnataka.
Architectural Features: The temple is enclosed within a laterite prakara (compound) wall with stone foundations, measuring approximately 40 by 60 feet. It has a distinctive architectural style.
Garuda-Stambha: At the entrance, there is a Garuda-stambha (flag post) with a stepped basement. On the basement of this stambha, there is a carving of a donor couple with their five sons and daughters-in-law, which is a notable artistic feature.
Mandapa: The temple has a mandapa (hall), which is accessed via a balustrade staircase. On the doorway of the mandapa, there are two dvarpalas (guardians) on either side. These dvarpalas are depicted holding chakra, shankha, and gada, with one foot resting above a serpent hood.
Stone Windows: Stone windows are inserted around the mandapa, adding to the temple’s architectural beauty.
Central Pillars: The mandapa is supported by four central pillars. The ceiling of the mandapa features depictions of Ashta-dikapalas (guardians of the cardinal directions).
Antarala: The doorway to the antarala (vestibule) has two guardian figures, which appear to represent Garuda and Shesha, both of whom are associated with Lord Vishnu.
Sculptures: The base of the temple is adorned with sculptures depicting scenes from the Ramayana, beginning with the Bala Kanda (the youth of Lord Rama) and ending with the Yuddha Kanda (the battle of Lord Rama). These intricate carvings narrate the epic story of the Ramayana.
Deity: Inside the garbha-grha (sanctum sanctorum) of the temple, there is an image of Lord Vishnu. The temple is built using black basalt, which is a common material for many ancient temples in the region.
